Orlando SoDo District is a great example of a successful, metropolitan revitalization community. Orlando has a long, beautiful and interesting history with diverse cultures, industries and commerce. But at the core of it all is its people.

Orlando SoDo District is the name given to the South Orlando area that is made up of historical places, mixed business industries, and recreational opportunities that will have something to suit just about everyone’s taste. It’s general perimeters are Orange Avenue from Lucerne Circle on the north to Pineloch on the south, and Michigan Street from Fern Creek on the east and Division on the west.

All towns and cities go through different phases of development. For most, that will mean some areas are passed by as advancements in technology, geographic and social development occur. As time goes by, it can mean a drag and liability for the town, city, and community that goes undervalued and recedes from a forward, positive development.

Revitalization,  a very important word for any community that can make it happen.  It’s when an area that has been left behind and no longer flourishes, or is no longer a positive contributor to the community, once again, becomes viable.  It is when a very specific and directed plan of action becomes successful and changes, attitudes, interest and investment begins to happen.  It is when a town, city or community  becomes alive again with a positive, vibrant environment for the people living, playing and working in that area.

I chose to include an informational page on this website for the SoDo District, because it means a lot to me, my family and friends and I want to acknowledge the efforts of those that help the area in general. In fact, as you look through this website, you’ll see a lot that supports our local professionals and people that help Orlando become the special and unique place it is.

Here’s a little of my own SoDo District story…

Gordy Haynes…Living, Playing & Working In The SoDo District For More Than 40 Years…

As a resident of the Orlando SoDo District for more than 40 years, I’ve had an amazing history and perspective  of this beautiful area in Orlando. My wife and I will celebrate our 47th wedding anniversary in May this year and we have seen a lot over the last four decades. Our family and friends and our community go back a long time, especially on Debbie’s side. She was born at, back then, Orange Memorial Hospital. As was her brother and her sister.

We spent many days of our lives enjoying the sleepy, laid back side of town called “South Orlando”, in the old days. Some of our favorite memories were eating at Lido’s. A very special Italian restaurant we had many great meals and evenings with friends before we’d go the Orlando Magic games, or maybe the Orange Avenue Drive- In. I remember many fun times of pop corn, car speakers and mosquitoes. And there was Branneky hardware and the old Zayres discount department store. (That was where Target sits now) When I first met Debbie, we fished the local lakes, walked many of the same parks that exist today and I loved to go to Cattle Auction, just south of Pinelock Ave. on South Orange Ave as a kid. No Longer There!

I became a State Certified General Contractor more than thirty years ago. Building all phases of construction.  Single family homes, including custom and major renovations projects, light commercial, specialty construction and restoration work. Today, my construction services are limited to Security Consulting for Orlando Panic Rooms and Orlando Safe Room designs. In the late 1990’s I became one of the first 200 members of FABI. The Florida Association of Building Inspectors.

Today, I offer Orlando Home Inspection Services and I service all Central Florida.  I became an All Lines Adjuster, was one of the first 110 Licensed Mold Assessors licensed by the state of Florida. Those two professions have given me a unique perspective to the inspections I do. I do not offer mold or mold related services.

Through the last twenty years I’ve have been a graphic artist, SEO Specialists and Webmaster. I design and manage many first page ranking websites that crosses many industries. Three of my favorite website & SEO clients are located in the SoDo District. Orlando Family Doctor https://www.OrlandoFamilyDoctor.org, Orlando Physical Therapy.

I am always interested in helping others and I’m clear that I have been so blessed throughout my life.

Thanks again to the director and sponsors for the great work with revitalization of South Orlando… Now, The Orlando SoDo District.
